Sustainability Strategy for a Company in the Food & Supplements Industry
In collaboration with our client, we have defined the following key objectives to optimize their sustainability efforts and ensure that they effectively address both current challenges and future opportunities in the evolving landscape of sustainability.
- Preparation for the CSRD report: Efficient and effective collection of sustainability data.
- Creating an understanding of sustainability: The aim here is to identify which sustainability levers exist and which are most relevant in this context. In addition, sustainability goals and key figures should be defined in a measurable way.
- Sustainability status quo analysis: Identification of the largest sustainability gaps and prioritization of these gaps.
- Definition of a sustainability strategy: Identifying how opportunities can be exploited, sustainability targets achieved, and competitiveness ensured (prioritization based on sustainability and profitability KPIs)
Our Approach:
- Internal Analysis – Sustainability Assessment: Systematic recording and analysis of the sustainability status quo & Identification of relevant sustainability levers
- External Analysis – Sustainability Understanding & Trends: Analysis of the market, technology and regulatory environment and alignment of the (technology-driven) sustainable future
- Prioritization – Sustainability Strategy: Development of an economic sustainability strategy with the alignment of innovation fields & own sustainability levers to (technology-driven) sustainability fields, as well as the assessment & prioritization of sustainability fields with economic KPI
- Internal Communication – Sustainability Roadmapping: Integrated sustainability planning with development of a sustainability roadmap
- External Communication – Sustainability Reporting: Communicating the organization's environmental, social and governance performance to stakeholders
CO2ptiMat – Product-Specific Emission Transparency and Increase of Recycled Material in Plastic Production
The plastics industry faces significant economic and societal challenges. With growing awareness of environmental issues and the demand for sustainable solutions, companies must find ways to make their products and production processes more environmentally friendly. A key lever for more sustainable and resource-efficient production in the plastics industry lies in increasing the use of recycled materials. However, transitioning from conventional oil-based materials to recycled materials presents challenges, particularly in ensuring product quality and maintaining productivity. Due to the technical difficulties and the sensitive impact of material changes on economically relevant factors, the use of recycled materials in plastics processing is increasing only slowly, and sustainability potentials are not being fully realized.
This is where the funded project CO2ptiMat comes into play. The project aims to develop a digital solution that will not only calculate product-specific emissions but also monitor the interactions between material mix adjustments and economically relevant factors such as product quality or productivity. Data from the production environment will be collected and linked to enable a dynamic view and support decision-making based on actual primary data. The solution will empower plastics processing companies to continuously monitor their product-specific emissions, provide data for reporting purposes to authorities, customers, or third parties, and make data-driven decisions to optimize the material mix and improve process efficiency.
The goal is to create a streamlined and economical solution, particularly tailored to the needs of SMEs, that is compatible with the heterogeneous digital infrastructure and varying levels of digital maturity in the plastics processing industry and can be efficiently integrated.
