Future Production

Designing Future-Proof and Adaptable Production Systems

Yesterday’s Expensive Toys Become Today’s Strategic Market Differentiation

Cheaper robotics, additive manufacturing processes, and automated design support enable more economical circular value chains as well as smaller lot sizes.

And this is just the beginning… If you are still planning or operating your production with the paradigms of 10 years ago, you are missing out on productivity and market differentiation.

We support you in rethinking your production systems to sustain productivity in a changing, competitive environment.

Roadmap and Implementation of New Production Technology

Finding the right time to make a technology shift in production can be hard. Too early, and it does not fulfill its goal. Too late, and a competitor already has an advantage. Let us guide you in roadmapping your production system for the possibilities of the future, utilizing AI and long-established, yet now more economical, production alternatives.

Integrated Design-Manufacturing Workflows

High-mix-low-volume productions and remanufacturing of returned products alike face the challenges of small lot sizes. While the production aspects have been steadily improved with digitalization, more and more the economic challenge is at the interface of design and manufacturing. We build solutions for making this economic and possible.

Design of Circular Value Flows

Circularity is a key driver of reducing waste and driving new business models. But reverse logistics, remanufacturing, heterogeneity of input, and availability of components pose challenges. We design strategies for circular solutions with business impact.

Skills Development & Training

With our comprehensive training program on circularity, production systems, and supply chain management, decision-makers in product management, production management, and supply chain management can see best practices to not only face current challenges but also come out ahead. We help you to stay competitive, compliant, and future-proof.

Additive Manufacturing

From toy to scalable production asset

A few years ago, 3D-Printing was considered a toy at worst or a means to do prototyping at best. Reason for this was not mostly technology but simply economics. Today, lot sizes of 100 or annual production volumes of 100.000 pieces can effectively be produced with modern additive manufacturing technologies. In combination with modern AI this can further reduce cost for design, tooling or overall production and decrease time-to-customer.

Robots

From need for full utilization to economic support of even just a few steps

A few years ago, lightweight semi-collaborative robots were only usable as fancy demonstrators or in very few applications – today, even though low-fidelity robots may not be as precise or capable to lift as heavy weights as industrial robots, the fact that they are available for one tenth of the price or less makes them economical for many applications, which would have previously not been solved with a robot just because it saves a few seconds time of an operator. And these new robots can even be economic if they stand still 90% of the time.

Automated Design

From expensive optimization to a mass-compatible tool

A few years ago, training an AI for design improvements was done when and where it really mattered – e.g. Aerospace parts needing to save that critical gram of mass, automotive parts manufactured by the million. Training them had been complex and costly and required lots of data. Today, better AI training approaches can train such systems with few data points, at lower cost and for broader applications. AI design improvements can be used as part of a workflow to refurbish parts for circular economy business models, or in high-mix low-volume setting for gaining efficiency.
